Recovery of Phenolic Compounds and Antioxidants from Coffee Pulp (Coffea canephora) Waste Using Ultrasound and Microwave-Assisted Extraction

Coffee pulp is a by-product generated from coffee bean production. This waste potential source of bioactive compounds, which can be recovered for use as an ingredient many products. However, this typically dumped in landfills or made into compost. Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted (MAE) were employed to recover compounds waste. Results showed that time instrument power significantly affected the recovery yield both UAE MAE. The temperature was also significant factor UAE. optimal MAE conditions radiation 70 min, 700 W, 50% (v/v) ethanol solvent sample ratio 100:5 (mL/g), approximately 47 mg phenolic 36 flavonoid, 8 chlorogenic acid, 6 caffeine could 1 g material. condition ultrasonic 35 60 °C, 250 W; however, antioxidant capacity constituted around one half Therefore, recommended technique compound pulp.
